Google launches DIY Game Builder

In case Google Stadia was enough marketing for them being real serious about videogames, check out Game Builder. This is a platform for building 3d games with simple low-poly graphics, no-coding-required interfaces and collaborative online tools to make it with friends. It’s designed for when “You’ve never built a game before. You don’t know how to program. You don’t know any 3D artists. And every tool you find won’t let you collaborate with friends.” according to the Google Blog.

The program operates in a Minecraft-style brick based world where you navigate your little avatar around and build things on the terrain. You can find tons of ready to use models from the Poly service to get your game looking the way you want it. Add life to the game later with preprogrammed “cards” or write your own in JavaScript to extend the functionality. The other big advertised feature is the full multiplayer suite, letting you build and play with others.

This is decidedly much less of a “maker” program like Game Maker, Construct or other full engines, but much more like the recently launched Dreams game for PS4. While that seems to offer far more 3D animation and model options than Google’s offering, this is free on Steam for your PC.

If you make something cool feel free to share and we’ll put it here.
