Report: Diablo 4 internal demo, new Overwatch developing

Top French news publication Le Monde has given us a clue at the state of Diablo 4. In an article published (link paywalled) recently they described layoffs at Blizzard Europe from earlier in the year and the state of the franchises.

The article goes into detail about the apparent ongoing process of layoffs at Blizzard, and the lack of continuous success of recent releases. Translated by Icy Veins, a passage reads:

What about the future? Teams at Blizzard Entertainment have already been presented with the long-awaited Diablo 4 and know that a new Overwatch game is in development. But neither of these two games will be released before 2020, at the very best, and employees at Versailles have no idea if they will still be around when they eventually release. « Activision Blizzard will be making less of a profit, but this will still amount to a lot of profit », says a veteran employee.

It would seem the next iteration of the Diablo 4 project is being shown off internally. We know the process of developing this title has involved multiple scrapped concepts. At this point we cannot be sure that this will be the version to finally reach the user, but ahead of Blizzcon it would be reassuring to know they have a concrete game plan. After all, the inevitable release of Diablo Immortal will need to be backed by good news for the fanbase.

The other tidbit is that a new Overwatch game is reportedly being developed. This lines up perfectly with news of a StarCraft project being scrapped in favor of a sequel to Overwatch. That same report detailed the game having a cooperative PvE focus. There hasn’t even been hints of it to the public though, so we’ll see how long it takes to develop.
