Battlerite development ends with Battle Season 3

Competitive MOBA brawler Battlerite and its spinoff Battlerite Royale are wrapping up development this year. Developer Stunlock Studios announced in a blog post that both games have no future update plans after Battle Season 3 which begins on June 10.

Stunlock reflects on the challenges of keeping people interested in the Battlerite games:

With the state of the current playerbase we’re no longer in a position where working on Battlerite and Battlerite Royale are sustainable as main projects for the studio. We’ve seen declining player numbers and player investment for a while now, and diminishing returns on all of our latest gameplay changes and marketing campaigns. While players are willing to try out Battlerite and Battlerite Royale for a while, retaining them has always been our biggest challenge.

Battle Season 3 is expected to run until October 23rd and any future plans for both games will be announced as that date approaches. The final season up date will slash all hero prices and their respective microtransactions by 50% moving forward. Additionally, the first three weeks of the season will offer quests to unlock unique weapons and outfits.

Battlerite received an overwhelmingly positive reception on release and healthy playerbase from going Free To Play with a traditional monetization model for a MOBA. The calculated acrobatic madness of a Battlerite teamfight is still a very unique experience: Nothing is RNG, everything is skillshot. While Battlerite Royale doesn’t lack originality as a concept, there’s simply not enough pull for the world of Battlerite to justify being splintered into two games. Nonetheless the original Battlerite is an immensely competent MOBA, and I look forward to what the developers do next.

Stunlock doesn’t intend to shut down the servers on a specific date yet. Battlerite and Battlerite Royale are both Free to Play on Steam.
