Gigantamax changes Pokemon looks in Sword & Shield

Pokemon Sword & Shield continues to shake our expectations with every new feature. We originally heard that Mega Evolution and Z-moves were being removed. Dynamax being a more universal approach to powering up your Pokemon was supposed to be the new thing, but we’re getting both of those removed mechanics essentially by other names. Check out the full Galar region update trailer:

Gigantamaxing Changes the Game in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield! ⚔️🛡️

Gigantamaxing will be a power up that only applies to specific Pokemon, and will also be usable for three turns only in place of Dynamax. This will directly affect the appearance of your Pokemon, as demonstrated with Alcremie, a new Galar region species. More than that, Gigantamax Pokemon will have unique G-Max moves to use during their transformations. Game Freak is describing the process of getting a Gigantamax-enabled Pokemon as a reward for participating in Max Raid battles. What do you think of the new mechanic? So far, we’re not sure of a full list of Gigantamax Pokemon.
