Power Rangers got its first real fighting game in many years with Battle for the Grid. The Marvel Vs. Capcom style tag team game produced by veterans of the Capcom fighting franchise has received immense post-launched support with three free characters added alongside an episodic story mode to accompany the pre-season fixes. Now, the first Season update will begin Season One with 3 paid DLC characters and a slew of multiplayer upgrades.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid - Season One Pass Trailer

The full season pass is $14.99 and individual characters can be purchased for $6.99 each. Roster updates include:

  • Trey of Triforia: The Gold Zeo Ranger has been anticipated to be part of the first DLC wave.
  • Jen Scotts: The Pink Time Force Ranger appeared in the story mode first.
  • Lord Zedd: The Emperor of Evil is not immediately available but will be included in the Season One Pass purchase, or to be sold later when he is playable.

The system update itself (v1.3) accompanying the season introduces cross-play between Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. You can play Ranked, Casual and now Direct matches between the platforms, with Direct added to assist in finding your friends online. Developer nWay touts that the system powering cross-play is a custom-built solution titled nWayPlay.

The major game play changes in the system patch notes include:

  • A cosmetic change included in the update is hit sparks, adding impact to your blows throughout the battle.
  • Push-blocking, KOs, and Takeovers have new visuals.
  • Assist moves now ignore juggling limits, letting your combos extend much farther with the use of assist.
  • Assist characters are now only vulnerable for a limited time during their tagout, keeping them safe from being knocked out of teleport.
  • Super and Megazord moves now beat armored moves.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is available now on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The Steam release is planned for later this year.
