Producer Ono is focused on Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

The rumor — or perhaps, desperate wish of Capcom’s followers has largely been a new numbered entry to Street Fighter. The current Street Fighter V is an oddity of radio silence over the past few months with no formal “season” of content currently. At EVO 2018, we received Kage as a new character immediately after the finals. He was met with positive response, but only costumes and stages have followed that update. Capcom is both large and well versed in developing fighting games, so any silence of this sort might signal that they are heads down working on something big. Producer Yoshinori Ono has dispelled these notions in a tweet:

Much like Street Fighter IV before it, SFV is here to stay. Street Fighter V was conceived as the sort of “live service” title that would grant it the longevity of its predecessor. The recent re-release as Arcade Edition has improved upon the shaky vanilla version, but the reputation precedes it. It’s still a divisive and often uninviting game, with high cost to DLC and poor opinions on the roster. Its model has worked well for titles like Tekken 7 which have maintained community opinion high with its update cadence. EVO 2019 is set to be a big show for announcements, so it’s likely Ono will take the stage for Street Fighter V’s finals. EVO 2019 begins August 2nd.
