Shenmue 3 dev will reconsider Epic exclusivity

Shenmue 3 got yet another release date at E3’s PC Gaming Show, pegging it for November of this year. For PC gamers there was a cost: the game will be released exclusively on Epic Games Store. The feedback from developer Ys Net’s Kickstarter backers and the community at large was enough to get a statement. Their most recent Kickstarter update reads:

“We kindly ask all our fans to have some patience, we are currently at E3 demoing the game and need to get back to our respective offices to assess the situation and together find a way forward to justify the trust you placed in us.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this happen for Kickstarters turned Epic deals. XCOM-inspired Phoenix Point has launched on Early Access model via Epic Games Store and had no intention of going back on this. Backers to that project were previously promised Steam keys.

If we hear this decision changes we’ll update this article.
