Star Wars: The Old Republic makes it easier to play free

Star Wars: The Old Republic is updating the free play options to adjust to the current game economy. The long running MMORPG based on its titular franchise has been flexible on spending money at all: Buying an item off the cash shop gives you some extra perks for being “Preferred” or subscribing to the full breadth of the game. There are a couple restrictions for preferred and free players that are getting eased up on:

  • Credits: Preferred and Free players can now hold up to 1 million credits, up from 350 thousand and 200 thousand respectively.
  • Quickbars: Having breathing room in your UI is also a subscriber perk, but you’ll be able to access one more quickbar for free: Preferred members will have 5 and Free players will have 3.
  • Medical Probe and Quick Travel: The ability to revive where you died or fast travel to discovered locations was previously free and unlimited to Subscribers and only available via consumables to everyone else. No longer, as you’ll be able to revive and travel anywhere for free no matter your account status.

These changes are expected to arrive in Game Update 5.10.4 sometime this month. Are you interested in diving back into The Old Republic?
