Yes, Really: The Witcher 3 is coming to Switch

The rumor was wild in the first place: The Witcher 3 getting a Switch port. Then we heard from Panic Button saying they had nothing to do with such a project then we all thought it dead. But apparently CD Projekt Red tapped Saber Interactive for this one: at the Nintendo E3 Direct we got confirmation of Geralt’s most famous adventure coming to Switch. Let’s get right into it and check out screenshots from the E-Shop, captured directly on the hardware:

It was pretty immediate the game was going to get some significant downgrades to get ported, and that’s very obvious in the trailer. CD Projekt Red isn’t shying from giving details though, the game will run in 540p handheld mode and 720p docked. The game will employ dynamic resolution to keep framerates smooth. In terms of gameplay content though, we’ve gotten confirmation both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine will be included as well as every smaller piece of DLC. In terms of storage space, CD Projekt Red is telling us about 32GB of game is included and will be fitted entirely on a single cartridge for the physical release. Big move considering Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch decided to sell the physical version on an 8GB cartridge with 20GB required download.

The quest to port high-fidelity AAA games has been an arduous one ranging from Panic Button’s work on DOOM and Wolfenstein to Bethesda’s Skyrim ports. While the most recent attempt to fall on its face was Ubisoft’s port of Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered, we’re anxious to see more footage of this game. Check out the trailer.
