Realm Royale is now free to play on Switch

That was fast: Less than a month after the purchase-required closed beta of Realm Royale, you can now play for free. As the title suggests, Realm Royale is a battle royale game based on Hi-Rez’s hero shooter Paladins. Just a month ago on May 24th the game released with a $14.99 price tag for closed beta access. While the developers had planned the release for “later this year” we got the game very soon after: You can download it now on the e-shop and the Founder Pack items are still available as a DLC purchase.

Realm Royale adds a number of interesting mechanics to genre: The best weapons of the game must be crafted at forges, with different classes getting different abilities to loot and weapons to craft. The game also prides itself on the downed mechanic where you turn into a chicken and run helplessly from your attackers until you are revived after a time. Overall it’s a very competent battle royale and if Fortnite’s performance woes on the Switch turn you off, give this one a shot.
