Fortnite’s Celebrity Pro-Am bleeds viewers

Twitch analysis site GitHyp has some bad news for Epic: 72% less people watched the Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am in its second year. The first-ever celebrity Pro-Am racked up 1.5 million viewers on Twitch with fan-favorite streamer Ninja and EDM producer Marshmello taking the win that year.

In an analysis of the overall viewership for Fortnite’s Summer Black Party in the days after E3, GitHyp observes some troubling trends. The two day event saw only a 200k peak over the usual 300k or above peak on a Saturday. The Sunday event for the Pro-Am stream peaked out at 427k. That’s well above the average Fortnite streaming count on a typical day, but it’s also about 72% less overall than the first Pro-Am.

The Battle Royale smash-hit has been kept above Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive on a regular basis but it can’t crack the top spot this year. That spot goes to League of Legends, a game with a less troubled E-Sports circuit and more consistently satisfying player experience. It was previously reported that Fortnite lost the top spot on Twitch as early as February.

Eyes will be on the Fortnite World Cup this year to determine the future of the game as an e-sport.
